EquiTrust is based in Chicago and is a relatively newer entrant to the annuity market when compared to some legacy providers.
The company was founded in 2003, but has a surprisingly large market presence given its age. It exceeded $7 billion in annual annuity premiums sold in 2024.
Magic Johnson Enterprises became the controlling shareholder in 2015, and the company played a big role in Johnson becoming the fourth-ever athlete to become a billionaire in 2023.

EquiTrust Annuities
EquiTrust offers 16 annuity products, divided into the categories of accumulation annuities and payout annuities.
There is a solid mix of options available, ranging from one-year rate annuities to index-linked annuities.
Accumulation Annuities
EquiTrust’s six different accumulation annuities can help you work towards different goals. While each type has its potential benefits and offerings, the accumulation annuities all offer the general benefits that are considered industry standard.
This includes security such as nursing home and terminal illness waivers, along with the ability to withdraw up to 10% of your contract value with no penalty after a year.
EquiTrust’s accumulation annuities include:
- MarketEdge Bonus Index
- MarketPower Bonus Index
- MarketTen Bonus Index
- MarketValue Index
- MarketSeven Index
- MarketFive Index
Some of these products can offer bonuses to customers. The MarketPower Bonus®, for example, offers access to different indexes along with a 10% premium bonus in the first year.
The MarketTen Bonus® annuity, on the other hand, advertises a 6% bonus on premiums paid in the first five years of the contract.
EquiTrust also sells more simplified products, such as the ChoiceFour® Annuity. This is a one-year renewable rate product paid with a single premium and an annual reset on your interest rate.
EquiTrust offers several fixed annuities. The MarketEarly Income Index and MarketFuture Income Index are available to people between the ages of 45 and 80, with a flexible premium between $10,000 and $2 million.
The SmartBoost Index annuity is a single premium immediate annuity (SPIA), with a no-fee, built-in 40% enhancement that can boost your accumulation value. After the first year, you can withdraw 7% of the initial premium without surrender charges.
There’s also the Confidence Income® Annuity, a single premium immediate annuity (SPIA), paid with a lump-sum premium and offering a handful of payout options. It includes a fixed period payout, a single life or a joint life payout.
Certainty Select is the company’s multi-year guaranteed annuity (MYGA), which is available up to age 90.
Lastly, EquiTrust has a traditional fixed annuity, called ChoiceFour. Four options vary by premium bonus, interest rate, and withdrawal rules.
