Why We Built This
Jason Caudill spent years as an executive at Raymond James, one of the most respected wealth management
firms in the country. He understood annuities, how they worked, how they were sold, and what the conflicts
of interest looked like from the inside. He also understood something else: most of the people who needed
these products most were getting the least transparent version of them.
Middle-class Americans, people who worked 30 or 40 years, saved carefully, and were now trying to make
one of the most consequential financial decisions of their lives, were navigating a market built around
commissions and complexity rather than clarity and their actual interests.
He wanted to build something different. There was just one problem: his securities licenses and his
position at Raymond James made that impossible. So his wife, Kiara, stepped up.
The Founding
Kiara Caudill holds a Master’s Degree and is a licensed mental health counselor, a career she still
practices today. She is not a career insurance professional who stumbled into financial planning. She is
someone who spent her career studying how people make decisions under stress, how fear and anxiety distort
judgment, and what it actually takes for a person to feel secure.
When Jason came to her with the idea for My Annuity Store, she got her insurance license. Not as a career
pivot, she kept her counseling practice. She did it because she believed in what he was trying to build,
and because she understood better than most what retirement anxiety actually does to people.
They founded My Annuity Store together in 2020. Jason was the sole provider for the family at the time.
Kiara’s decision to take on the risk of a new business was an act of trust. Without it, none of this
exists.
What Makes Us Different
Most annuity companies are staffed by salespeople. We are not.
Jason brings two decades of financial industry experience, including his time at a Fortune 500 wealth
management firm where he saw exactly how the industry’s incentives were structured. He built My Annuity
Store specifically to work differently: independent of any single carrier, transparent about how we earn,
and accountable only to the people we serve.
Kiara brings something rarer. Her background in mental health counseling shapes every client
conversation. Retirement decisions are not purely financial. They are threaded through with fear, fear of
outliving your money, fear of making the wrong choice, fear of losing the identity that came with a career.
They involve marriages, family dynamics, and decades of accumulated anxiety about whether you saved
enough.
Kiara understands that. She approaches every client conversation with the same care she brings to her
counseling work: listening first, never pushing, helping people find the balance between what the math says
and what they can actually live with.
We call it the balance between mental health and financial health. We have not seen another annuity
company frame it that way, because most of them are not built by a mental health counselor and a financial
industry veteran who decided the existing model was not good enough.
How We Operate
My Annuity Store is an independent licensed annuity brokerage. We are licensed in 47 states and represent
more than 40 carriers. We earn a commission from the issuing insurance company when you purchase, the same
structure every licensed annuity agent uses. That commission does not affect your rate, your guaranteed
value, or any contract term. It comes from the carrier’s distribution budget.
We do not sell your information. When you call us or submit a quote request, you are talking to our team
– not to a network of agents who paid for your contact details.
We will show you the full independent market, including carriers that do not distribute through the large
wire houses or bank platforms. That is frequently where the best rates are. If a carrier we do not
represent is offering a meaningfully better product for your situation, we will tell you.
We do this because we do not need the commission on any single transaction. We need you to trust us
enough to come back, to send your friends, and to know that what we told you was true. That is a better
business model. It is also just the right way to operate.
The Mission
Jason has said it plainly: he has enough. The goal of My Annuity Store is not to maximize revenue. It is
to help middle-class Americans retire with dignity and grace.
That sounds like a tagline. It is not. It is the reason Kiara got her insurance license. It is the reason
Jason left a career at one of the most prestigious firms in wealth management. It is the reason we are
transparent about our commissions, why we do not sell leads, why we represent the full market rather than a
curated selection, and why Kiara still practices mental health counseling alongside this work.
We believe that a 62-year-old school teacher in Indiana, or a retired firefighter in Ohio, or a small
business owner in Texas who built something over 40 years deserves the same quality of guidance that wealthy
clients get at the large firms. They deserve someone who will tell them the truth, show them the full
picture, and sit with them through the anxiety of making a decision they will live with for 20 or 30
years.
