How We Rate and Review Annuities
Last updated:
This page explains how we rate and review annuities at My Annuity Store, and where to find the full method behind every number on the site. Each part of the process has its own page, so every score, review, and rate table links to the exact rules behind it.
How we rate and review annuities: the three methods
- How we rate annuity companiesThe published formula and data sources behind every carrier’s Financial Strength Score.
- How we rate annuity productsThe factors we examine on every product review and what each score out of five means.
- How we get our ratesWhere our annuity rate data comes from, how often it refreshes, and how tables are ranked.
What every method has in common
- No paid placement. No insurance company can pay to receive, raise, or remove a score, a review rating, or a position in a rate table.
- Commissions are not an input. Carriers pay us when a client buys an annuity, and commission levels play no part in any score or ranking.
- Third-party data. Rates come from carrier filings through AnnuityRateWatch, and financial strength data comes from the major rating agencies.
- Dated and correctable. Every score and review carries a date, and we correct factual errors when they are reported.
How our best-of lists are ranked
- Company lists, such as the best fixed annuity companies and the best fixed index annuity companies, explain their picks in a “How we picked these companies” section on the list itself.
- Rate tables, such as today’s best fixed annuity rates, sort by the highest guaranteed rate within each term.

Frequently asked questions
Where does My Annuity Store get its rate data?
Every rate comes from carriers’ filed rate sheets, aggregated by AnnuityRateWatch. Our rate tables refresh from that feed automatically at least once every 24 hours.
Does My Annuity Store get paid to recommend certain products?
The insurance company pays us a commission when a client buys an annuity through us, at no extra cost to the client. Commission levels are not an input to any score, review rating, or table ranking, and no carrier can pay for placement.
How do you rate an insurance company’s financial strength?
We publish a five point Financial Strength Score built from the Comdex ranking, which blends AM Best, S&P, Moody’s, and Fitch. It is adjusted for capital adequacy, company size, and operating history, and the full formula is on our how we rate annuity companies page.
Is there a formula behind your product review scores?
No. A reviewer examines the same list of factors on every contract, including crediting rates, surrender terms, income rider value, and carrier strength, then assigns a score out of five. The factors and what each score means are on our how we rate annuity products page.
Last reviewed October 17, 2026. Scores and reviews on My Annuity Store are editorial assessments. They are not credit ratings and not a recommendation to buy any specific contract.
